Augusta University announced on March 15 that campus operations will proceed as usual on Monday, March 16, despite forecasts indicating the potential for severe weather in the area. The university said it is prioritizing the safety of its community and will continue to monitor conditions.

The announcement matters because strong winds, hail, and possible tornadoes are expected from mid-morning to late afternoon on Monday. Windy conditions may persist after the front passes, leading to freezing temperatures overnight. The university emphasized that protecting students, faculty, and staff remains a top priority.

University leadership said they are continuing to assess weather conditions and will provide updates regarding campus operations as needed. Students, faculty, and staff have been advised that classes and regular activities will continue as scheduled. Those at regional clinical campuses should follow guidance from their deans. Clinicians and specialists at Wellstar MCG, MCG, and DCG are instructed to follow directions from their supervisors.

To stay informed about any changes or emergency announcements, members of the Augusta University community are encouraged to use official channels such as the university homepage, Augusta University Alerts page, MyAugusta announcements, Instagram, and Facebook pages. The university also recommends signing up for JagAlert—its automated alert system—and RAVE Guardian for connecting with campus police in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Updates regarding shuttle operations will be posted on the PassioGo website and app.

The university urges everyone to learn how to prepare for tornadoes and stay safe during severe weather events. As conditions develop throughout Monday, further updates will be communicated through official platforms.
