The U.S. Census Bureau has announced the release of updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files for 2025. These geospatial data products are now available in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats. According to the Census Bureau, these updates allow users to create custom thematic maps using a range of data sources.

A notable addition in the 2025 update is the inclusion of new Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages. These datasets contain both 2020 and current block information, with suffixes indicating blocks that have been split since 2020. The new data can be linked to the bureau’s current address count listing files.

Geospatial data from TIGER/Line files include legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries as well as roads and hydrography. The boundary data can also be connected to future demographic releases on data.census.gov, enabling users to visualize census tabular data geographically.

While TIGER/Line files do not provide demographic statistics themselves, they feature geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that allow linkage with demographic information produced by the Census Bureau. Users seeking guidance on which product best suits their needs are directed to consult the TIGER Data Products Guide page.
