The U.S. Census Bureau will begin an embargo for the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates on September 9, 2025, at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. The data will be released to the public on September 11.

The ACS offers statistics about people and housing in the United States, including topics such as language spoken at home, education, commuting, employment, mortgage status and rent, income, poverty, and health insurance coverage. It is the only source of local estimates for most of these subjects.

Embargo subscribers will have early access to these statistics starting September 9 at 10 a.m. ET through September 11 at 12:01 a.m. ET. The data will cover all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, all congressional districts and metropolitan statistical areas, as well as other geographic areas with populations of at least 65,000.

Wire and distribution services are not allowed to release embargoed news stories or data files before the official public release date and time. “For more information, refer to the Census Bureau’s embargo policy.” All data products will be available to everyone by 10 a.m. ET on September 11 through platforms such as data.census.gov and related tools.

Those interested in embargo access can register online at https://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.
