Union members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) in Florida convened at the state capital, Tallahassee, for a five-day legislative conference. The event brought together both active members and retirees to engage with state representatives and senators. Their discussions focused on labor rights, wage improvements, and safeguarding pensions and Social Security.
During the conference, union leaders and activists stressed the need to resist legislation that could weaken collective bargaining or affect workers’ financial security. “Leaders and activists emphasize the importance of opposing anti-union legislation that threatens the collective bargaining power and financial stability of the working class.”
The participants represented machinists from across Florida, including areas such as the Kennedy Space Center, South Florida, and the Panhandle. They aimed to influence state policy in favor of union workers ahead of the 2026 midterm elections by providing direct input to lawmakers.
The primary objective was to advocate for policies that would improve living standards for union members statewide.
