Thirty-six communities in Georgia will receive over $36.2 million in federal grants, according to an announcement from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA). The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which is managed by DCA.

Of the total amount, $32.2 million is designated for infrastructure projects and $3.9 million will go toward various building projects across the state’s communities.

“Community Development Block Grants allow rural Georgians to have access to resources that strengthen their infrastructure, enhance community facilities, and improve overall quality of life,” said Commissioner Nunn. “These grants ensure that local governments are given every opportunity to thrive. When our communities and facilities thrive, so do their citizens.”

The CDBG program is available to non-entitlement local governments in Georgia, focusing on rural areas. Applications for funding undergo a competitive process where they are scored and ranked based on merit before awards are made.

“Community Development Block Grants are an important tool for Georgia’s communities to improve infrastructure,” said DCA Director of Community Finance Kimberly Carter. “This year’s grantees will be able to use these awards to bolster their infrastructure and housing needs.”

The DCA works with communities across Georgia to support neighborhood development, economic growth, affordable housing solutions, and assistance for low- and moderate-income residents. More information about its programs is available at https://dca.georgia.gov/.
