The Georgia Department of Community Affairs announced on March 10 the launch of Georgia Rehoused, a new pre-application process for communities seeking funding to reduce unsheltered homelessness. The initiative aims to streamline how local organizations apply for state and federal housing funds by using a single pre-application to determine eligibility for various grants.
Georgia Rehoused is designed to help communities demonstrate how their proposals will address homelessness and ensure they meet basic eligibility requirements before submitting full applications. The department plans to distribute available funding through three award cycles, with the first cycle’s pre-application period closing on April 7 at 5:00 p.m.
According to the announcement, pre-applicants will receive recommendations from department staff either to proceed with a full application or take additional steps to meet eligibility standards. After receiving this determination, eligible projects can participate in a competitive funding round. “The Georgia Rehoused Grant is a new way to bring innovative and stable housing opportunities to Georgia,” said Christopher Nunn, DCA Commissioner. “We are seeing creative housing solutions introduced across the country, and we know Georgia communities and local partners are ready to provide similar opportunities.”
To qualify, applicants must form collaborative partnerships led by local governments that represent community interests and decisions. They must also show how their proposed use of funds will reduce the number of unsheltered individuals in their area and be registered in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). All required documentation must be submitted electronically through the application portal.
Key dates for the first award cycle include the release of competitive applications on March 31, closure of pre-applications on April 7, closure of competitive applications on May 11, anticipated award notifications during the week of June 6, and final commission approval on June 23.
The launch of Georgia Rehoused reflects ongoing efforts by state agencies to address homelessness through coordinated funding strategies. Interested organizations can find more information about eligibility requirements on the Georgia Rehoused webpage or contact DCA directly via email.
