The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has announced that its Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) program will conclude on June 30, 2026. The EHV program was created as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). DCA is among more than 600 Public Housing Authorities nationwide that manage this initiative.

In March 2025, HUD provided the final funding allocation for the EHV program. According to DCA, this funding will support Housing Assistance Payments (HAPs) for EHV participants through June 30, 2026. After this date, all HAPs will end, and contracts between landlords and DCA related to these vouchers will terminate. Any ongoing lease or tenancy agreements between landlords and tenants will continue without involvement from DCA.

The announcement specifies that only the Emergency Housing Voucher program is affected by this change. Other programs managed by DCA, such as the regular Housing Choice Voucher program and other special voucher initiatives, remain unchanged.

Residents with an Emergency Housing Voucher or property owners renting to EHV participants are encouraged to contact DCA at 470-802-4707 or via email at [email protected] for further information. Additional details and a list of Frequently Asked Questions can be found on the DCA website.
