Georgia Power and the Atlanta Falcons have announced a partnership to launch the Light Up the Holidays Contest, aiming to encourage community engagement during the holiday season. The contest runs from November 28 through December 12 and invites Georgia Power customers to showcase how they are celebrating—either with holiday decorations or acts of service.
To participate, entrants must follow Georgia Power’s Instagram account (@ga_power), comment on the company’s November 28 contest post explaining their holiday activities, tag two friends, and share a festive photo using #GeorgiaPower and #ShowYourGlow. Finalists will be contacted after submissions close and announced publicly on December 15. Public voting for finalists will occur between December 15 and December 22, with winners revealed on December 27 via Instagram.
Prizes include four sideline tickets to an Atlanta Falcons game in January, a $5,000 donation by Georgia Power to a charity of the winner’s choice within specified organizations, hotel accommodations in Atlanta provided as a gift card valued at $600, an energy savings kit from the sponsor, and additional items from the Falcons. Second place includes a $2,000 charitable donation, admission to a local light show valued at $200 (as a gift card), an energy savings kit, and more. Third through fifth place winners receive admission to a local light show ($200 value as a gift card), an energy savings kit, and items from the Falcons.
The contest is open to legal residents of Georgia aged 18 or older. Complete rules are available online.
Georgia Power also advises customers on safe and efficient holiday decorating practices. Recommendations include using LED lights for greater efficiency compared to traditional bulbs; inspecting light strings for safety certifications such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL); avoiding overloaded outlets; using timers for decorations; exercising caution with space heaters; practicing ladder safety near power lines; replacing air filters regularly; repairing caulk or weather stripping around doors and windows; and maintaining thermostats at about 68 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal comfort and energy savings.
