Georgia Serves has announced the allocation of nearly $5 million in federal AmeriCorps funding to 17 organizations across Georgia for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. The grants, totaling $4,951,957, will support approximately 613 AmeriCorps members who will work on issues such as education, economic opportunity, health, homelessness, disability support, and financial literacy.
The recipients include a range of nonprofits and educational institutions. Among those awarded are Hands On Atlanta ($1,028,495), One World Link for both its Rural Georgia AmeriCorps Program ($535,774) and OWL Public Health AmeriCorps ($499,388), Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers ($325,438), Breakthrough Atlanta ($258,293), and the University of Georgia Research Foundation for two projects: Georgia 4-H AmeriCorps Project ($420,786) and Georgia College Advising Corps ($124,461). Other grantees include Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta; Communities in Schools of Georgia; Family Scholar House; Kennesaw State University Research and Services Foundation; New American Pathways; Relay Graduate School of Education; Sewa International Inc.; Teach for America – Metro Atlanta; and The Scholarship Academy.
According to Georgia Serves, these funds are expected to be matched by about $3 million from private sources and foundations. The Corporation for National and Community Service will also provide more than $3 million in Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards to members supported by these grants.
Since its start in 1994, over one million Americans have participated in AmeriCorps programs nationwide. Together they have completed more than 1.5 billion hours of service and earned upwards of $3.6 billion in education scholarships. Of that amount, over $1 billion has been used to repay student loans.
Full-time AmeriCorps members who complete their service term may receive an education award up to $7,395 to use toward college costs or student loan repayment. Award amounts depend on member status.
Each year across the country about 75,000 AmeriCorps members serve at over 21,000 schools and nonprofit organizations. Their work includes tutoring students, connecting veterans with jobs, caring for seniors, reducing crime rates in cities, fighting opioid addiction, supporting disaster recovery efforts and helping first-generation college students access higher education.
“AmeriCorps is a federal agency that engages millions of Americans in service through its AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs, leading the nation’s volunteering and service efforts.”
