The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has announced that its next Spanish Leadership I Class will take place from April 19 to 24, 2025, at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center. The program is open to all IAM members and staff.

IAM encourages members interested in attending to contact their Local President, Business Representative, or General Chair as soon as possible. While fluency in Spanish is not required for participation, some understanding of the language is considered helpful.

All classroom instruction, books, and materials for the course are provided in Spanish. The curriculum mirrors that of the English-language leadership programs and focuses on building leadership skills while strengthening connections with Spanish-speaking members and communities.

According to IAM, “the Spanish-language programs at the Winpisinger Center are coordinated and developed by the Spanish Language Working Group (SLWG), which is composed of IAM staff and members. The program covers a wide range of subjects designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective union leadership. Some of the topics include labor history, parliamentary procedure in local administration, the role of the steward, human rights, the importance of organizing, and government and politics.”

Since its inception, IAM’s Spanish Leadership Program has aimed to create an inclusive environment for members who may face language barriers while also welcoming those who want to engage with colleagues whose primary language is Spanish. Participation in these programs does not count against a Local’s regular allotment for leadership school attendance.

Openings remain available for all levels of IAM’s Spanish Leadership programs. Additional dates have been set for 2026: Spanish Leadership II will be held July 26-31; Advanced Leadership will take place November 15-20.

IAM continues its commitment to providing education and leadership development opportunities in multiple languages—including English, Spanish, and French—to ensure that all workers have access to resources needed for growth within both the union and broader labor movement.

For more information about registration or program details, interested individuals can contact the Winpisinger Center at 301-373-8820 or via email at w3leadership@iamaw.org.
