The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is urging the U.S. Senate to approve the Protect America’s Workforce Act, which seeks to restore collective bargaining rights for federal workers. The union has called on supporters to contact their congressional representatives in support of the legislation.

According to IAM, President Donald Trump’s executive order issued on March 27 ended collective bargaining for federal unions. The union described this action as an attack on civil servants and their workplace rights.

IAM International President Brian Bryant addressed both chambers of Congress with letters advocating for the passage of the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550). “Federal workers are essential, and they’re committed to serving the American people. These workers deserve the right of collective bargaining, which provides protections in the workplace and better service to the public, just to name a few benefits,” Bryant wrote.

The bill was introduced in the House by Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and has received bipartisan backing.

IAM represents thousands of federal employees nationwide, including those affiliated with the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM), which covers about 110,000 federal workers across the country.
