IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen and other leaders recently visited IAM Union members at Alaska Airlines Cargo, engaging with both Alaska and Hawaiian mechanics in Seattle and Hawaii.
During these visits, Johnsen addressed questions about the upcoming representation election between the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) and the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA). The election follows an ongoing merger between Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines.
Johnsen issued a public challenge to AMFA for a debate regarding workforce representation. “I am willing to meet at any time, any where to discuss issues at stake for the workforce,” said Johnsen.
The IAM Union has described AMFA as a smaller and weaker organization in this context. Video highlights from the meetings are available online.
