The IAM Local 2198 Young Workers Committee organized its first Dora Cervantes Bowling Fundraiser to support Guide Dogs of America – Tender Loving Canines (GDA/TLC). The event gathered union members, their families, and local supporters for a fundraising activity.
The fundraiser was named in honor of IAM General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes, recognizing her continued efforts to support GDA/TLC and her role in promoting leadership among younger union members.
Dora Cervantes commented on the event: “It’s deeply moving to see young members take the initiative to give back in such a meaningful way. This charity has always represented compassion and purpose, and our IAM family continues to make sure that mission thrives.”
Funds raised from the event will benefit GDA/TLC. The organization provides service dogs at no cost to veterans, people who are blind or visually impaired, and children with autism.
Julie Frietchen, IAM Women’s and Young Workers Director, said: “Our young workers are showing what the future of this union looks like: strong, compassionate, and community-minded. They’re carrying forward the IAM’s legacy of service and solidarity while creating their own path of leadership.”
Organizers plan for the bowling fundraiser to become an annual event aimed at increasing awareness and resources for GDA/TLC.
