IAM Union members and supporters of Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines (GDA | TLC) held a fundraising event in Las Vegas to support the organization’s work. The event included activities such as a sporting clay shoot, race car driving, ax throwing, golf, and a gala. These efforts aim to help GDA | TLC provide service dogs for people who are blind or living with PTSD and autism.
Brian Bryant, International President of the IAM Union, thanked participants and sponsors for their support. “I want to express my gratitude, along with the entire IAM Executive Council, for the large turnout of participants and sponsors, particularly members of the IAM Union from different territories, for their fundraising efforts,” said Bryant.
A baseball-themed gala dinner was held on Saturday night with over 1,000 attendees. The “Gift of Sight” awards were presented to David Sullivan, IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President; Arthur Maratea, TCU/IAM National President; and Southwest Airlines.
Speakers at the event discussed how service dogs have positively changed recipients’ lives. Among them was a Canadian military veteran who shared his story about living with PTSD and how his service dog Oakley has helped him.
The charity week reflects ongoing collaboration between labor organizations and service dog advocacy groups to support individuals facing disabilities through specialized training programs.
