Cyclists, runners, and walkers gathered with the Georgia Cancer Center at Augusta University for PaceDay 2025, an event aimed at supporting ongoing cancer research and raising funds for future advancements in cancer care.

Participants were greeted by volunteers as they passed the M. Bert Storey Research Building of the Cancer Center. Jorge E. Cortes, MD, director of the Georgia Cancer Center, commented on the support: “It was wonderful riding by the Georgia Cancer Center and seeing so many of our staff, faculty, trainees and friends coming together to celebrate the people participating in PaceDay 2025. It is an honor to be part of this event to celebrate cancer survivors, as well as our cancer researchers and the passion and dedication both bring to their experiences. I cannot thank the community enough for their support year after year and being willing to participate in PaceDay to raise money for all our research projects.”

According to Paceline, this year’s event saw a record 770 participants since its start in 2018. The day concluded at Augusta Common with food, socializing, and live music.

Martyn Jones, president of PACELINE, highlighted the significance of the event: “PaceDay is the culmination of all the planning my team does to host an event that supports the innovative research happening at the Georgia Cancer Center. It is incredible to see all the participants who show up ready at the start line after weeks and months of fundraising activities. And this year, we saw a huge amount of excitement for the 5K run/walk option, almost doubling 2023’s turnout. This means even more people participating and raising money for cancer research projects that will help define the future of cancer care locally with the potential to have global impact.”

In addition to cycling and running events, participants could join a spin class at Augusta Common through a partnership with Cycle Bar. Instructors emphasized that each mile covered and every donation contributed supports progress toward better outcomes for those diagnosed with cancer.

Although PaceDay 2025 has ended, donations are still being accepted as Paceline works toward its $500,000 fundraising goal this year.
