Taylor Rehmet, a long-time leader in the International Association of Machinists (IAM) union and a military veteran, has been sworn in as a Texas State Senator. This marks the first time a rank-and-file union member has taken office in the Texas Senate.
Rehmet’s background includes various leadership roles within the IAM union. He stated that his move into state politics is an extension of his advocacy for workers’ rights. “He explicitly pledges to address critical issues such as stagnant wages, retirement security and public education,” according to Rehmet.
His inauguration was recognized as a significant moment for the labor movement in Texas.
