The U.S. Census Bureau has released preliminary data from the 2024 Annual Survey of School System Finances, offering an early look at public school spending per pupil for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as state-level statistics on revenues and expenditures for the 2024 fiscal year.

According to the Census Bureau, fiscal years are not consistent across all school systems, and the survey data have not been adjusted to standardize fiscal years among them. The agency also noted that these figures are provisional and may change before final data is published.

“The preliminary data are subject to change before the final release. The Census Bureau plans to release the final FY 2024 Annual Survey of School System Finances data for all 50 states and the District of Columbia in 2026.”
