The U.S. Census Bureau has released new data tables detailing the foreign-born population in the United States, based on information from the 2024 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC). The release includes social and economic characteristics of three groups: first generation (foreign-born individuals), second generation (those with at least one foreign-born parent), and third-and-higher generation (individuals with two U.S.-born parents).
The tables cover a range of topics such as employment status, education, household income, poverty status, race, age, and sex. The CPS is recognized as one of the nation’s most established surveys for gathering monthly labor force statistics and is also used for other studies to inform the public about economic and social conditions.
According to the Census Bureau: “The new table package provides social and economic information on the employment status, education, household income, poverty status, race, age, and sex of the first generation (those who are foreign-born), second generation (those with at least one foreign-born parent), and third-and-higher generation (those with two U.S. native parents) population living in the United States.”
