The Winpisinger Center has announced that it will begin offering Online Steward Training starting October 1. The program is designed for new shop stewards who are unable to attend in-person sessions at the center. According to Winpisinger Center Director Mary McHugh, “This initiative is another step forward in expanding our members’ access to quality union education, no matter where they live or work.”
The training will be available to all members in good standing who serve as stewards. It will take place over three consecutive weeks, with each session lasting two hours and covering two topics. To accommodate different schedules, sessions are offered three times each week.
The first week will address the role of the steward and their rights and responsibilities, with sessions scheduled for October 1 at 10:00 a.m. EDT, October 2 at 8:00 p.m. EDT, and October 4 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
The second week will focus on grievances and investigations, with sessions on October 8 at 10:00 a.m. EDT, October 9 at 8:00 p.m. EDT, and October 11 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
In the third week, the topics covered will be just cause and discipline cases as well as contract cases and past practice. These sessions are set for October 15 at 10:00 a.m. EDT, October 16 at 8:00 p.m. EDT, and October 18 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
